What a Marketing Manager does
A marketing manager is tasked with creating plans or programs that will spark interest in services or products. Their job requires them to work together with other professionals such as art directors and staff in charge of finances, to plan budgets, choose advertising media and discuss marketing plans.
They plan and manage giveaways, contests, coupons and other promotional campaigns. They assess and approve the layouts of websites where the ads will be featured. Marketing managers also do market research to gather information on customers and business opportunities. They provide clients with technical and marketing advice.

- Advertising Managers:their work is in advertising agencies, media firms and organizations. They partner with sales teams to create advertising campaigns on behalf of the client.

Steps to Careers in Marketing
Step 1: FINISH YOUR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION AND GET THAT COLLEGE DEGREE
The first step to beginning a career is finishing high school. This gives you the opportunity to join college. This is where you get to decide which subjects are best for you depending on the career path you want to take.
As a marketing professional, a marketing degree is the perfect fit for you. You may however enroll for other related programs such as business administration and accounting. These programs usually cover topics on marketing and other important areas of business. Others give you the option to major in marketing so in this case, they will suffice.
Step 2: GAIN WORK EXPERIENCE
Any marketing manager you meet today will tell you that they started out as a sales representative, marketing assistant or marketing analyst before working their way to the top. That is the case in most organizations.
So if you are a graduate, you could begin work at entry level positions. You acquire relevant experience that can’t be matched. This is what will help you grow in your career.
Step 3: JOIN GRADUATE SCHOOL OR PROFESSIONAL COURSES

Being part of a trade association keeps you in the know when it comes to new technologies and industry developments. They plan conferences and seminars where these new information is shared.
The way to participate would be via organizations such as the American Marketing Association (AMA) or Sales & Marketing Executives International (SMEI). Joining these organizations gives you the opportunity to meet other managers and professionals with whom you can network.
